Fighting Payday Lending in Mississippi

Payday lending establishments in Mississippi charge a 572% interest rate for very short-term loans to low income people to help them cover their basic expenses until their next paycheck. This has the effect of sucking large amounts of income away from people and communities who are already desperately poor.

We produced this video for the Mississippi Center for Justice to help them show the Jackson City Counsel, Mississippi Legislature, and the general public, the impact of payday lending on their state and, most importantly, to demonstrate some positive alternatives.

Special thanks to Christie Herring (http://www.christieherring.com/) for shooting and editing this video.
